First of all, I need to apologize for not updating in such an incredibly long time (going on 4 months now). Effectively, I owe you all 16 updates worth of content. Yeah... that is not going to happen!
So what have I been up to since my last update? The majority of my time goes to taking care of my mom. When I first made this temporary move to Kansas in the early Fall of '06, I anticipated the time to take on a load of work from Handheld Games. After being here, however, I've discovered this just simply isn't an option. When you factor in household chores, taxes, bills, and being a caregiver, there is very little time left in the day. The time I do have available gets spent chatting with Abby on the phone, playing a little bit of World of Warcraft, or tossing around an imaginary tennis ball in Wii Sports. Most of the activities we do for fun in the evening involve the whole family, as well.
This past Christmas was probably one of the best I have had in a very long time! Abby was able to visit for almost three full weeks, which was a true blessing for all of us (me, most of all). The personality and fun she brought with her really livened up the house and got us all in the true Christmas spirit. The only downside to her being here was that she had to leave at the end of the month to head home to Ellensburg, WA to finish her degree. She has two quarters remaining of classes, then one quarter of student teaching. Words cannot begin to describe how proud I am of her!
Although we are technically done with curative treatment and are now on hospice, we haven't given up. I still have a very good feeling about mom's recovery, and I think the next several months will be important steps in a good direction. We're considering a new, highly-concentrated IV dose of vitamin C. It is proving to work wonders in patients in her position, where everything else medical science knows about just doesn't seem to work. We'll be discussing it with our oncologist this week to see what his thoughts on it are. Whatever is decided will be best, I am sure.
I just wanted to say thank you again to everyone who has taken the time to support me and what my family is going through. I have the best fiancé, friends here and afar, and family that anyone could ever ask for. I'm not entirely certain what the future holds for any of us, but I do know it will have plenty of good and great days in it.
